Sometimes life is overwhelming. There are days (weeks/months) when you want to throw the covers over your head and cry “I just can’t adult right now!” But you get up. You go to work. And life goes on.
I had one of those weeks when I went to the ER twice, and ended up at the cardiologist for further testing. And you know what? Instead of wallowing, I went to get donuts. I stopped beating myself up about not working out, and ordered a dozen from local North Carolina chain, Duck Donuts.
And they were AMAZING.
Instead of dwelling in a negative thought cycle (“I didn’t work out today so I don’t deserve these donuts.” “This is a bad food”) I turned off my brain and enjoyed every last bite. It can be hard to actually enjoy food when society places such an emphasis on health and fitness. But life is about balance.
And some days, you need to just let yourself eat a donut.
So if you’re in the midst of a rough season, choose joy today. Choose to treat yourself. Keep calm and eat donuts.
