We look at lights and deck the halls,
Rejoicing in the season’s all.
We go to sleep with dancing dreams,
And choose to ignore the baby’s screams,
Or mama’s whispers from miles away-
Hopefully they live another day.
We ask for iPhones and bear our souls online,
While daddies carry their daughters across rubble-strewn streets and cry.
We Instagram our Christmas morning,
Without praying for those in mourning.
We snuggle up in our cozy beds,
But forget our brothers and sisters who have been led-
To the slaughter.
We act shocked to hear the horrors in the Middle East,
But do we not understand there’s people who cannot eat?
There’s genocide happening as we sleep!
As we speak.
i’m sorry to say,
Most of us choose to think of you another day.
Note: We cannot stay silent. We must not be people without a conscience. Choose empathy. Choose prayer. Choose to give to organizations who are helping this crisis. Choose to stay informed.
