What I ordered: Shrimp Taco, Chips & Salsa, Rice & Beans
Lasting Impression: This place makes the best shrimp tacos I have ever had. It’s pretty cheap (especially for New York) and a serves amazing food. I heard about this shop from a gluten free blogger (NOBREAD) and I’m so glad I checked it out! Absolutely worth your time and money!
What I ordered: Regular Fry & Mexican Ketchup
Lasting Impression: Yes, there is a restaurant that only serves french fries! It’s incredible. The fries are served in a cone, and there are plenty of homemade sauces to choose from as a side. The fries were perfectly crispy on the outside, and the atmosphere was really unique. This restaurant is an experience. I was glad the prices were pretty low, because it’s definitely not a dinner substitute!
What I Ordered: I’ve been here multiple times. So I’ve had: Iced Coffee, Banana Muffin, Zucchini Bread, and Thai Noodles
Lasting Impression: I am absolutely OBSESSED with this place. It’s the perfect little coffee shop. The food is delicious, even though it’s healthy and completely gluten free. I’ve been there three times this week! But a warning, since everything is homemade (even the almond milk) it gets pretty pricey.
What I Ordered: dark chocolate and strawberry soft serve
Lasting Impression: I had really high hopes for this place, because it’s frozen yogurt made entirely of fruit. How cool is that? While it’s very healthy, and I didn’t feel guilty eating it, I wasn’t too crazy about the taste. I think I’ll stick with real frozen yogurt next time.
What I Ordered: Blueberry Doughnut
Lasting Impression: I love this bakery! It’s not my absolute favorite in the City, but everything is gluten free so that is a huge plus 🙂 The doughnut was very tasty though, and I’ll stop by if I’m in East Village again.
What I Ordered: Fruity Pebble Soft Serve
Lasting Impression: I love this place! The soft serve really did taste like fruity pebbles and milk. The little store really lived up to the hype it’s been garnering on social media.
What I Ordered: GF Bagel with Birthday Cake Cream Cheese
Lasting Impression: This place is very popular for the birthday cake cream cheese. It’s delicious! However, I really wasn’t crazy about the bagel. I’ve had better from Trader Joes. The regular bagels smelled delicious though!
What I Ordered: fried eggs, avocado toast, smashed potatoes and iced coffee
Lasting Impression: This is a really popular brunch spot in the City, so I had high expectations. This place absolutely exceeded all of them! I was blown away by the flavors of my food. The restaurant is very quaint, and the food is delicious. Definitely a MUST GO for brunch.
What I Ordered: Strawberry popsicle dipped in chocolate
Lasting Impression: This was an accidental find in the West Village, and I’m so glad I tried it! The popsicle was the perfect pick-me-up and wasn’t too sweet! I loved it. Definitely stop in here if you’re in the area.
What I Ordered: Three Cheese Grilled Cheese on GF Bread
Lasting Impression: This spot was recommended to me by a local who swears their grilled cheese is the best in the city. The shop has been open since 1940, and definitely is a local hot spot. I loved the grilled cheese! But the bread at Pie By the Pound was better, so I probably will be going back there for a sandwich instead.
What I Ordered: Macarons: Chocolate, Snickerdoodle, Birthday Cake
Lasting Impression: These mini macarons are to die for! I honestly don’t even like macarons but these were delicious. They’re only a dollar each, so you don’t feel like it’s over priced either. I will be returning! Some of the Baked By Melissa shops have gluten free cupcakes, so call ahead if that’s what you’re craving. Unfortunately, my location did not sell them.
