I was researching restaurants in Charlotte (one of my favorite hobbies is researching places to eat) and I found this restaurant called Crispy Crepe. I’m a sucker for alliteration and carbs, so I took my roommate to eat here. Wow. We were so impressed. I’ve been going here ever since, and the restaurant has both the gluten free and glutenous foodie stamp of approval.
The little South End location has free parking, patio tables, and a large menu boasting lots of yummy gluten free options. The portions are HUGE. So you really get what you pay for! This is my favorite place for a fun Saturday brunch. In fact, it reminds me a lot of the little cafes and crepe places my family found in Paris this past summer.
The gluten free crepe batter has a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg, making it delicious even before being covered in nutella, peanut butter, or your toping of choice. The savory crepes are amazing (I recommend the Bruchetta) but the sweet crepes are INCREDIBLE if you have a massive sweet tooth like me. The waffles (not gf) are thick, sweet, and really filling. I highly recommend them for gluten eaters.
The coffee is excellent, and their specialty lattes are definitely Snapchat worthy. The food presentation here is top-notch, so it’s the perfect place to take people you want to impress without breaking the bank. (I took my parents here because it’s so cute, and they whipped out their phones to snap pictures and loved the entire atmosphere). The interior is upbeat and friendly, but not cozy like a coffee shop. It’s an excellent cafe, but I wouldn’t stay here to work.
If you’re watching your carbs, there are also fluffy omelettes and egg dishes. I’ve tried the scrambled eggs here, and they are also great.
Bonus: there’s free 3 hour parking in the parking deck next door. In South End, this is a real treat!
The only negative aspect about this place is it’s closed on Mondays. Bummer. But definitely still a wonderful little French find in the heart of Charlotte!
