I have an obsession with brunch. I think brunching should be a verb. I think that brunch should happen every single weekend. If someone asks me to get together, I always suggest brunch. That being said, Cafe Monte in Southpark has incredible breakfast and lunch suggestions served on WEEKDAYS so you can brunch any day of the week! This makes me oh so happy!
Cafe Monte does an excellent job at creating an inviting atmosphere. The French theme is overt without being over-the-top. The prices on the menu aren’t outrageous, yet you still feel like you’re eating somewhere upscale. The menu is also allergen friendly, and gluten free options are distinctly marked. The servers are also all knowledgable about gluten, so no awkward explaining has to be done (YES).
(Heads up: usually my sister orders the gluten free waffles. They are amazing, but sadly, I don’t have any pictures of them. I think we were too hungry the last time we ate there together to take any pics!)
The coffee: Cafe Monte has excellent coffee. Definitely nothing special (basic lattes, mochas, coffee) but it is still great quality! The menu is also incredible aesthetically pleasing. As someone who has been to France, I also was looking for authenticity with the food in comparison. And it definitely measured up! There were several dishes that were the same both in French cafes and at Cafe Monte.
For this brunch, I ordered the Parisian Omelette with skillet potato, fruit, and gluten free bread. The gluten free bread was HANDS DOWN the best I have ever had. Most GF bread is disgusting, but this tasted “normal.” The skillet potato is one of my favorite things. I’ve had it before, and I would go back just for the skillet potato! The omelette was really great, but honestly, the skillet potato was more impressive.
My friend ordered the chicken salad on a croissant per the waiter’s suggestion! She loved the chicken salad and the croissant was amazing. It’s definitely popular for a reason.
Now what’s really incredible about Cafe Monte are the macarons. I don’t even like macarons, and these were INCREDIBLE. Better than the famed Amelie’s French Bakery in Charlotte. They were so flavorful and the perfect texture. I was so impressed with the macarons, I will definitely be going back for dessert! The chocolate macaron was my favorite out of all the ones we tried!
All in all, this is a unique, fun brunch spot to hit in Charlotte. I have never been for dinner, but I’m sure the food is excellent. This is the perfect spot to bring your parents, a girl’s night, or brunch! If you’ve been here before, let me know what you like to eat in the comments.
