The first word that comes to my mind about 2016 is GROWTH. This year was full of a lot of seasons where the Lord taught me how to solely depend on Him. Being sick for five months this year was challenging in many areas. It was so rough not having answers, but the Lord was so present in the midst of the pain. In the midst of the doctors appointments, hospital visits, and a trip in an ambulance, Jesus showed up. And so I’ll always be thankful for this year. Even if there are still no answers about my health. Even if 2017 holds even more doctors appointments. I’ll be grateful. Because Jesus provided comfort and peace unlike ever before in my life.
So there’s a lot of posts about how terrible 2016 was for the world, for our nation, for our personal lives. Honestly, it was pretty depressing in a lot of ways. But the negativity is really bringing me down, so I decided to do a roundup of some of my personal highlights of 2016! Most of these things I’ve blogged about throughout the year, so there will be links down below to some of my old posts.
Starting a new job
This year, I started my job at a non-profit and it was truly a dream come true. In my wildest dreams, I never expected to be so lucky. I wrote about it here!
Living in New York
During the summer, I went to The New School for a month to do a writing intensive course. Being in the city was a dream come true. Honestly, the Lord showed me so much about His faithfulness in that season. I was completely alone in an unfamiliar city, but I never once felt lonely. I was able to meet incredible people, most of them very different from me. I wrote a lot about my experiences. (Links below)
This app has changed my life!! I’m the biggest Audible supporter EVER. Long commutes are so entertaining now. It was honestly such a highlight of my year.
Probably the one thing my family was most looking forward to this year was our trip to Europe. We’ve been planning it for years, so it was surreal to finally be overseas! We went to Italy (Rome, Venice, Florence) and Paris, France. One of my favorite things about Europe is the tradition of spending time around the table. You can read about my experience HERE. I can’t wait to get back on European soil!
Reading the Harry Potter series for the first time
I am late on the bandwagon. I know. But when the first novel was assigned in one of my English classes, I was dreading reading it. But I quickly became obsessed with the series! Seriously they are some of the most creative books ever written. My sister even bought me a lot of Harry Potter themed presents for my birthday which was so awesome. I’m such a nerd. It’s ok.
21st Birthday in New York
Turning 21 is such a great milestone-I feel like an actual adult now! But spending it in Manhattan made it even more special. I’m so thankful!
Thank you all for reading and subscribing this year. In 2017 you can expect lots of restaurant reviews & general foodie goodness, a few incredible trips, and more of Jesus! One of my new years resolutions is to post consistently, so I’ll be getting two posts a week up on the blog-one a fun travel/food post and the other just general writing about what Jesus has taught me. Here’s to 2017!
